The Oracle - Life Planning
“The sooner you start planning your life, the sooner you will live the life you dream of.”
-Hans Glint.
It was the 15th of February 2013 when I found myself sitting in one of the reading rooms of the British Library trying to find out what exactly I wanted to achieve in life, who I wanted to become and how I would organise my life. I spend two full days in the library sitting exactly in the same place just thinking and reflecting on it.
I chose to start by looking at myself as the whole-person paradigm. I personally used the four dimensions: body, soul, heart and mind as the base to plan the life I wanted to live my purpose. Development of these three dimensions was my definite goal. From each of these dimensions I selected the areas or priorities in my life.
As a result, my six priority areas were family, career, health, finance, social and spiritual life. I considered which were the most important in my life and I ranked them.
For each of them I created three sorts of goals, one for what I wanted to be, then what I wanted to do and then what I wanted to have. I focused on understanding first, who I wanted to be or become in relation to that particular area then I looked at what I needed to do to achieve it and finally what I wanted to have when I achieved it. This is a second great stage as you are shifting your aim and goals from the “having” or “doing” culture to the “being”. This is fundamental for an authentic leader as you shift what you value from getting to actually experiencing or, even better, living.
Imagination and dream big are the concepts I must highlight during this particular part of the process. I couldn't agree more with Napoleon Hill, that we hardly use our imagination, at least not in the correct way. We simply do not understand the immense power of this faculty yet. I will talk a bit more in detail in the second part of this book but in the meantime I can tell you that it was during this exercise that I made the correct use of my imaginative faculty for the first time.
At this point, I would like to stop my story and grab your attention to the key points here. When we are ready to create our own future and commit the rest of our life to the achievement of these definite plans, there are two main recommendations for you to do. First, be wise when deciding what you desire in your life so you do not focus all your potential on something that is not worthy and second, dream big, really big. To achieve these two aspects, you need a very smart use of your imagination.
Back to my story. That exercise was purely a thinking, reflecting and even meditating exercise. Every line I wrote was carefully considered in my context and was evaluated before being included.
